Our Rooms

Solace and space, that’s what you’ll find with the wonderful selection of rooms here at Ayshford Court.

You can choose from The Ayshford Rooms that overlook the hills beyond; expect 17th Century ceilings and fire places, while ‘The Hayloft’ provides a more contemporary feel, with an attractive blend of modern furniture.

It is our belief that, even if you’re with us for just one night, that one night should fulfil and exceed your expectations. Ayshford Court is more than somewhere to bed down, it’s somewhere to feel cosy, serene and taken care of.

Where We Are

We’re based in the unsung hidden gem of Devon, being just 5 minutes from Junction 27 on the M5 and Tiverton Parkway mainline station. This particularly lovely area is often missed by those heading through to Cornwall or South Devon. We are just 20 minutes from the Blackdown Hills and Exmoor.

Ayshford Court is also in close proximity of the Grand Western Canal Country Park, which is a favourite amongst keen walkers and cyclists, definitely not to be missed on a beautiful summer’s day. The thriving Cathedral and University with the City of Exeter are 16 miles away, with both north and south Devon coasts in easy reach.

Ayshford Court History

Observe the first view of Ayshford Court as you cross the bridge over the still waters of the Grand Western Canal and pass the small 15th Century private chapel.

The current building of this Domesday Manor dates right back to the 16th Century! The Ashford Rooms, with their ornate plaster ceilings, one dated 1631, are in a 17th Century wing and The Hayloft in a later agricultural extension.

The grand court, now essentially a farmhouse, holds a cottage-like appearance when viewed from the walled garden, belying the many interesting architectural features within.

Despite its connections to the past, Ayshford is now a modernised, cosy family home, ready to welcome patrons for a wonderful night’s rest and a beautiful morning breakfast!

Some Lovely Testimonials

Our stay at Ayshford Court was a surprise for my 50th birthday. I've visited on numerous occasions but never had the opportunity to stay.

For me it was a very personal experience. I actually felt at home. The reason for this was not only my family ties to Ayshford Court, the family taking over the land in the 11th century but also the fantastic friendly hospitality shown to us by Richard and Lucy. Nothing was too much effort.

If you want to stay somewhere steeped in history, somewhere to relax and recharge your batteries, then Ayshford Court is the ideal place to stay. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Thank you Richard and Lucy.

I brought my partner here for a surprise stay for his 50th birthday. This was the ideal place, and all the more special, as he himself is an Ayshford. I've heard so many stories about his family past, and their link with this place.
To stay in the Ayshford Rooms, with the beautiful ceilings made it even more personal. He's the first Ayshford to sleep under that roof for many many years, centuries.
Lucy and Richard are the ideal hosts, and were so welcoming. They made you feel like old friends coming for a visit.
Highly recommended, and we will definitely return!

Incredible place. Within easy reach of Cornwall, Exeter and Devon coast, and perfect spot for some R and R. Sublime interiors, gardens and real piece of history. Lucy and Richard are so welcoming, and the breakfast was lovely.

What a magical place. A little piece of history. We stayed in the Hayloft which was like having our own apartment at one end of the house-with an incredible super king bed and beautifully decorated. The gardens are super and it’s not everywhere you can visit a little chapel when wandering the surrounding grounds!

If you like walking you are perfectly situated-lovely walks each way along the canal, right on the door step.

The owners Richard and Lucy are an added bonus-such fun and nothing is too much trouble. We booked as we had a wedding in the area-but will definitely be returning to have a proper explore!

Ella from Yorkshire

Wonderful authentic property with all the modern amenities and lovingly selected details
Wonderful property throughout and extra large room and bathroom with so much attention put into every detail, but by far the best aspect were the wonderful owners! I couldn’t recommend more this little piece of heaven in rural Devon and its lovely owners and their hospitality.

Ayshford Court is like the best kept secret . . . So easy to break the journey on the way down to Cornwall and it felt like a real treat and a proper part of our holiday. Literally 5 mins from the M5 but it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. Our room was amazing. Beautiful, spotless, ancient with views over the garden. They’ve got it just right - really welcoming (the breakfast was really the best of our holiday) but we had lots of space to ourselves. Will definitely return.
